"I am Gitmo" tells the story of a Muslim teacher who was taken from his home and brought to Guantanamo in the fight against terrorism after September 11. Gamel is taken from his home in Afghanistan to Bagram airbase, then to Guantanamo, Cuba. Here, despite claiming his innocence, he is subjected to intense interrogation and torture. Gamel's fate is in the hands of military interrogator John, who handles his file. The film offers a drama that draws the audience into the depths of Gamel's character and John's ethical dilemmas. The film triggers the audience's emotional response with interrogation and torture scenes, while also showcasing how easily a person's freedom can be taken away and how easy it is to get lost in the system.

The film was largely shot in Guantanamo, Cuba.
