Las Demás

An unexpected pregnancy of a university student tells the shocking and conflicting period she goes through with her best friend.

Las Demás portrays the life of Rafaela, a free-spirited university student whose life is turned upside down by an unexpected pregnancy. When she finds out she is pregnant, her life is turned upside down due to the fact that abortion is not legal in the country she lives in. However, she faces this tough process together with her close friend Gabriela. The journey of Rafaela and Gabriela, from their pink, comfortable homes to the harsh and raw backstreets of Santiago, is at the center of Las Demás, the first film by director Hyland. The film impressively conveys the strong friendship and struggle for survival of these two young women. The film offers its audience an emotional journey and draws attention to the difficulties encountered in real life.

The film was generally shot in the backstreets of Santiago and in the pink house of Rafaela and Gabriela.
