A story that shows how much harm young girls can do to their bodies for the promise of a glittering fashion career.


Marija and Kristina are young girls living in an industrial city. They spend the summer with Marija's grandmother in an industrial area in the background of Lithuania. Marija's walking disability quickly makes her an outcast and she fights with her peer Kristina. Kristina, like many other girls in the area, attends a modeling school. Marija joins this cult-like institution. With the promise of a career in the fashion industry, the girls are dragged into a spiral, abusing their bodies to the extreme. As a deep bond develops between Marija and Kristina, it shows the oppressive and exploitative structure of society and how young girls have to fight against this structure. The film, directed by Saulė Bliuvaitė, conveys their real experiences.

The film has captured the attention of viewers by showing how young girls’ insecurities about their body image can be taken to the extreme. This earned it the Golden Leopard and Best First Feature awards at the Locarno International Film Festival.

The film was shot in an industrial area of Lithuania.
