Creating Art from Mimaroğlu's Film Archive: The Mimaroğlu Remix Project
The Mimaroğlu Remix Project is an art project in which the 8mm film archives of İlhan Mimaroğlu, hidden in whiskey boxes, are reinterpreted by more than 30 artists and turned into 15 different visual and audio works. The project is curated by director Serdar Kökçeoğlu and producer Dilek Aydın. The artists have revived these long-lost images with experimental sound palettes and contemporary video art. The project concludes with the first screening of Mimaroğlu's silent short film about a street jazz festival, accompanied by Erdem Helvacıoğlu's dark jazz music. This project offers viewers a new and innovative perspective on Mimaroğlu's works, while also highlighting his ongoing influence in art and musical heritage. Each work in the project adds a new interpretation to Mimaroğlu's archive and also provides an opportunity for viewers to re-evaluate these works from their own perspectives. The project's filming took place in the original locations where Mimaroğlu's works were shot.
