I Am Gitmo
"I Am Gitmo" tells the story of a Muslim teacher, Gamel, who is taken from his home and brought to Guantanamo as part of the war on terror following September 11. Gamel is first taken from his home in Afghanistan to Bagram air base, then to Guantanamo, Cuba. Here, despite his claims of innocence, he is subjected to intense interrogation and torture. Gamel's fate lies in the hands of military interrogator John who manages his case. The film presents a drama that draws viewers into the depths of Gamel's character and John's ethical dilemmas. While the interrogation and torture scenes trigger an emotional response from the viewer, the film also reveals how easily a person's freedom can be taken away and how easy it is to get lost in the system.
The film was largely shot in Guantanamo, Cuba.
