Arthur Fleck is a man who is ostracized by society. As a result of the difficulties he experiences, he gradually becomes an outcast and finds himself in crime and chaos.


Set in the 1980s Gotham City, the film focuses on the life of Arthur Fleck, a failed comedian. Outcast by society, Arthur is all alone in life. In constant search of a connection, Arthur spends his life wearing two masks. During the day, Arthur wears a clown mask to make a living, while at night he wears a mask he can never remove. Growing up without a father, Arthur is called by his mother, his closest friend, Happy. However, the bullying he is exposed to causes him to gradually become an outcast. Slowly sailing into uncanny waters psychologically, Arthur finds himself in crime and chaos in Gotham City after a while. Over time, Arthur distances himself from his own identity and takes on the character of the Joker.

The film has had a profound effect on its viewers. While revealing how Arthur Fleck became a criminal in the face of exclusion, bullying and social pressure, it also criticizes society's attitude towards excluded individuals.
