Kneecap

The story of an instructor rapping in Irish and two youths who started a hip hop movement in Belfast.

Kneecap tells the musical adventure of an instructor named JJ who raps in Irish and two young men, Naoise and Liam Og, who started a movement to preserve Ireland's local language in Belfast. When Liam Og's party night ends in a police interrogation room, JJ helps him hide LSD while interpreting for an English-speaking police officer. This situation becomes the beginning of a wave shaking Belfast by combining the notebooks of Liam Og and Naoise about drugs, sex, and resistance against the British establishment with the rhythms coming out of JJ's garage. However, the police, politics, and paramilitaries have their own reasons for obstructing the group's success. Amidst radio boycotts and bomb attacks, these three young men come under crossfire and unexpectedly become a political and rebellious symbol of a generation. The film reminds viewers of the importance of preserving local cultures and the power of young people to speak out. The film was shot in Belfast, Ireland.
