"Songs of Resistance" is a documentary that tells the story of seven young Italian ethnomusicologists and activists, known as Cantacronache, who embarked on a secret journey to northern Spain in the summer of 1961, during a period dominated by the Franke dictatorship, with the aim of collecting folk songs of resistance. This dangerous mission led to the publication of a legendary book where the folk songs of resistance were collected, however, this book was soon accused by the government. The documentary narrates this secret journey across different places in northern Spain from the perspective of these young people and the resistance songs that emerged as a result of this journey. The film focuses on the desire to amplify the voice of resistance and the sacrifices made for freedom. The film was shot in many different locations in northern Spain.
The viewers, while witnessing the challenges these young people faced and the desire to amplify the voice of resistance, also gain a lot of information about the history and culture of Spain and Italy.
