The Zone of Interest

The life of Auschwitz commander Rudolf Höss and his family as they try to live a dream-like life in the shadow of the death camp.

"The Zone of Interest" is a realistic and shocking film that tells the life of Auschwitz commander Rudolf Höss, his wife Hedwig and their children. The film shows the Höss family trying to live a dream-like life in a luxurious house overlooking the walls of the death camp, right in the middle of the train tracks and gas chambers. However, this magnificent life is shattered when it collides with the realities outside. Adapted from Martin Amis' novel of the same name, this film observes the Höss family's ordinary daily life as they enjoy their large gardens, greenhouses and pools, while the ashes of death rain down on their heads.

The film shows the audience how they try to live a normal life even in one of the darkest periods of history and the results of these efforts. Viewers have found the film to be both a tool for historical truth and a tool for understanding the complexities and contradictions of human nature.

The film was shot on location at the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp.
