Ranma Saotome and his father Genma travel to the 'cursed training ground' Jusenkyo in China. There, despite the warnings of the Chinese guard, they fall into the cursed springs. From then on, Ranma turns into a girl when doused with cold water, and moreover, turns into a quite attractive, athletic redhead. Hot water turns him back into a boy, but only until the next time. To make matters worse, his father betroths him to Akane Tendo, who hates men.
