Life of Marcielle
The film narrates the story of Marcielle, a 13-year-old who discovers the abuse and exploitation in her local community on Marajó Island, in the heart of the Amazon Forests, in a successful coming-of-age story. Marcielle, along with her family and little sister, leads a calm and impoverished life. However, as she discovers the dark truths lying beneath the heaven-like appearance of the place they live, Marcielle enters a desperate struggle to survive and protect herself and her sister. While the film realistically conveys the pains and struggles Marcielle has experienced, it also draws attention with its complex characters and strong story that allow the audience to empathize. The film won the Audience Choice Award at the Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival and the Best Film Award in the Giornate degli Autori section in Venice. The film was shot on Marajó Island, the heart of the Amazon Forests.
